CBD oil is one of the most popular products on the CBD market. And today, we are going to give you an explanation of why this is the case. In this article, we will look at how CBD oil is made. Our overview will help you understand all the processes involved in creating Relaxing Nature's high-quality products.
1. Cannabidiol (CBD)
In a nutshell, cannabidiol, or CBD for short, is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the hemp plant. Unlike another cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is a non-psychoactive compound, meaning it doesn’t cause the so-called “entourage effect”. Today, the CBD market is growing rapidly, with more and more products appearing. Despite CBD oil being one of the most common and popular products with CBD, few people actually know how CBD oil is made.
Making a high-quality CBD product involves a chain of steps, including planting, harvesting, extraction, combining, testing and packaging. And we will be telling you about each one of them in detail. Are you ready? Let's go!
2. Cultivating the hemp plant
CBD has to be extracted from “industrial hemp” that is legally grown in the United States and a number of countries in Europe. It is cultivated from seeds containing less than 0.2% THC as per European Union regulations. These plants are grown and nurtured in a way that they contain high levels of cannabidiol instead of THC.
3. Planting the hemp plant
The first step of the production process is planting. Before the seeds are placed in the ground, the soil is prepared and tested for herbicides. Since Relaxing Nature owns a massive high-level facility to grow the plant, the raw materials needed to make high-quality CBD products can be grown all year round. Hemp is a perfect resource for regenerative agriculture because it can be used in crop rotation to help return nutrients to the soil. The plant produces a large amount of biomass that is returned to the soil where it decomposes, giving nutrients back to it.
4. Harvesting the hemp plant
Full-grown hemp takes 100 to 120 days to mature. Cannabinoids are primarily collected in the resin glands of the plant's trichomes. Before the crops are officially harvested, a sample from each one is tested and approved. This is in accordance with the legal restrictions on THC content (less than 1.0% in Switzerland). After harvesting, the plants are placed in a well-ventilated area to be processed or air-dried. This process takes 3 to 4 weeks.
5. Extracting, refining and distilling CBD oil from the hemp plant
The next step is extracting CBD from the plant. There are many different techniques for doing this. If you want to learn about them in more detail, you can check out our article on the methods of CBD extraction. Here, we will tell you about the CBD extraction methods used at Relaxing Nature. Each method has its particular pros and cons and can be used depending on the final product.
5.1 CO2 extraction
Compared to all other techniques, CO2 (carbon dioxide) extraction is the best method of extracting CBD. It is completely safe and creates very little waste. Specialized equipment comprising three chambers is used in the process that converts CO2 into a half-vapourised and half-liquid state. When the carbon dioxide is in this state, it is perfect for extracting the cannabinoids because it doesn’t cause any damage to the plant matter or compounds therein.
5.2 Alcohol extraction
In general, any commercial CBD extraction technique requires the use of solvents. These are important because they are highly efficient at separating the CBD molecule from other compounds found in the cannabis plant and purifying the solution. The solvent then evaporates and only pure CBD oil remains.
Ethanol extraction is a single-stream process that can be performed under warm or cold conditions. For this technique, the ethanol is first boiled in a bottle or saucepan. Next, the alcohol condenses on a chilled coil and then drips from the packaged floral material, stripping the cannabinoids and terpenes in the process. The advantage of this method is that the extraction is time efficient and has a relatively low solvent/feed ratio.
5.3 BHO mining
BHO or butane hash oil is another substance that can be used to extract CBD oil. The process is similar to alcohol extraction except that during BHO extraction, the solvent is not subjected to low temperatures. This extraction method yields a wide variety of products with different tastes and effects, but it is not as safe as using ethanol.
Of all the CBD extraction methods, the purest one is CO2 extraction. However, it is important to remember that the choice of a particular method depends on the end product the manufacturer wants to make.
6. Making CBD oil
The next step in production is the making of CBD oil itself. Here it is very important to remember what CBD oil is – a combination of CBD extract and a carrier oil (coconut or hemp seed oil). During this part of the process, the main goal is to mix the components without losing any of their important properties. Since all the ingredients are natural, this helps to create the ultimate vegan product without chemical additives or harmful compounds.
Relaxing Nature's CBD oils are based on hemp seed oil that is extracted from original, high-quality hemp extract carefully produced in-house. The scent and flavor come from organic compounds in the plant, such as cannabinoids, terpenes and chlorophyll. Relaxing Nature's CBD oils aim to provide a beneficial experience through the use of a potent and natural product. Our priority is the purity of our products in order to offer a safe, enjoyable and effective experience for our clients. Masterful CBD oil creation techniques are instrumental in obtaining a product that has a delicious natural nutty flavor reminiscent of walnut seeds.
The increasing popularity of the product and the ever-higher expectations for it inspire us to continue creating high-quality oils and not to lower their standard.
7. Lab testing and packaging
All of the steps in the CBD oil creation process are very important. And last, but not least, is the lab testing and packaging. At Relaxing Nature, all of our products undergo third-party testing. A sample of each batch is sent to a laboratory where it is tested for purity and potency. In addition, organoleptic tests are conducted to confirm the quality of the products. Third-party testing distinguishes high-quality CBD products from those we would advise against. This additional production process is critical when it comes to producing a quality product.
And how will customers receive our products without packaging? Well, Relaxing Nature supplies its products in easily recognizable stylish packaging that will help you identify them among the many others. We provide documentation for each product that proves its high quality and compliance with the current local CBD legislation of the country or region where you are buying our CBD oil. Also, if you order our products online, we can offer free shipping services around the world.
